A beautiful and bold iPhone app to track, rate and share all the movies you watch.
watched is an iPhone app to track, rate and share movies. It's a side-project I started with Martin Juhasz after realizing that we both kept a note for all the movies we watched, which was getting more and more messy. Having worked together on small iOS projects, we decided to scratch our own itch and built a simple app to fulfill our needs.
I was solely responsible for the app icon and interface design, as well as designing and developing the marketing website and newsletter, copywriting, and support. We're currently working on version 2 of the app.
With iOS7 still in the far away future, I aimed for a bold and heavily customized look, iterating on top of Apple's standard UI-controls to create a sense of familiarity for the user.
I went through many iterations - ranging from faux-3D boxes and curtains to simple marks - finally landing on a strong and memorable glyph. The finished icon aligned nicely with apple's stock icons and felt right at home on the device. I created a custom beta icon, too.
I wanted to show as much detail as possible and the level of polish and customization that went into the interface. So I decided against conventional screenshots and clunky devices and instead created custom interface snippets showcasing the relevant features.
I designed the newsletter to visually match the look and feel of the app and made it fluid from the start with some tweaks for the mobile version.
I prepared multiple spreadsheets to easily update and export all required assets for retina and non-retina screens.
